Apparel & Footwear Label Codes Decoded
"W" stands for Waist circumference in inches (32" = ~81 cm), and "L" stands for Length / Inseam measured along the inside leg seam from the crotch stitching down to the bottom ankle hem (34" = ~86 cm).
The number is your chest measurement in inches around the widest part under your arms (40 inches). The letter denotes jacket torso & sleeve height: S = Short (5'4"โ5'7"), R = Regular (5'8"โ5'11"), L = Long (6'0"โ6'3").
First number (15.5") is your collar neck circumference in inches. Second number (34/35") is sleeve length measured from the center back of your neck, across your shoulder, down to your wrist bone.
Petite sizing refers strictly to HEIGHT (5'4" / 163 cm and under) โ NOT body weight! A Petite XL (PXL) has the same bust/hip width as a Regular XL, but with shorter sleeves, higher knee placement, and raised shoulders.
They are NOT identical! "XXL" is graded up from the straight/missy pattern block (narrower shoulders and straighter waist-to-hip ratio), while "2X" (and 1X, 3X) is drafted on a dedicated Plus pattern block with fuller curve room.
Shoe width letters! For Men: B = Narrow, D = Standard/Medium, 2E (EE) = Wide, 4E = Extra Wide. For Women, letters shift one step: B = Standard/Medium, D = Wide, 2E = Extra Wide.
Inseam = inside leg length from crotch seam to ankle. Rise = vertical distance from crotch seam up to the top of the waistband (Low Rise = 7โ8", Mid Rise = 9โ10", High Rise = 11"+ sitting at belly button).
Grams per Square Meter โ measures actual fabric density and weight. Lightweight summer tees are 140โ170 GSM; heavyweight boxy streetwear tees are 240โ300 GSM; luxury thick fleece hoodies are 400โ500+ GSM.
European countries do NOT share one single number! An Italian IT 42 = French FR 38 = German/Scandinavian DE/EU 36 = UK 10 = US Women's 6.
