Skincare Ingredient Conflicts & Compatibility
Wondering if you can use Retinol with Vitamin C or Salicylic Acid? Test ingredient pairings to protect your moisture barrier, avoid chemical burns, and maximize active ingredient efficacy.
Can I Mix These Two Skincare Ingredients?
Mixing the wrong serums can ruin your skin barrier. Select two active ingredients to test whether they should be applied together or separated into AM/PM routines.
Never apply Retinol and exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA) in the same routine! This strips the stratum corneum barrier, causing severe redness and flaking. Alternate nights instead (Skin Cycling).
Active Ingredients Cheat Sheet (AM vs PM)
Retinol / Retinoids (Vitamin A)
Stimulates cellular turnover, boosts collagen production, and smooths fine lines and acne.
Vitamin C (L-Ascorbic Acid)
Neutralizes environmental free radicals, fades dark spots / hyperpigmentation, and brightens complexion.
Salicylic Acid (BHA)
Oil-soluble acid that penetrates deep inside pores to dissolve sebum, dirt, and dead skin cells.
Hyaluronic Acid
Humectant capable of holding up to 1,000 times its molecular weight in water, intensely plumping skin.
Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)
Regulates sebum production, minimizes the appearance of enlarged pores, and calms redness.
